When your computer is running slow it can get frustrating fast. The more sluggish your computer is the longer it takes for you to get anything done. It is time for you to upgrade your computer's RAM. These instructions can help you get out of that rut a slow computer can put you in.

Instructions

Difficulty: Challenging

Things You’ll Need:

  • RAM module (determine the type by your computers manual)
  • Antistatic wrist strap

Step1
Check in your computer's manual to determine which type of RAM modules you need as motherboards only take 1 type. If you have misplaced your manual check the websites for Crucial or Kingston and they can help you determine the right RAM for your PC.
Step2
Power down your computer then unplug it. Lay your PC tower on its side and open the case.
Step3
Ground yourself using an antistatic wrist strap to protect the circuits of your computer.
Step4
Check your computer's manual to determine which RAM sockets to fill. You may need to remove obstructions that are in the way. Should you need to remove the RAM that is currently in there then push down on the clips located on the side of the RAM socket. The module will pop out.
Step5
Open the new RAM module envelope and, holding it by the edges, place it on top of the envelope. Push down the latches at the edge of the RAM socket and line up the notch on the module with the bump on the socket. Gently push the module in to the socket.
Step6
Put your computer back together and turn it on. Keep an eye on the screen to make sure that the new RAM is recognized. If it is not recognized then restart the computer and enter the CMOS setup program that can be found by following the onscreen prompts.
