Instructions

    • 1

Avoid caffeine, dairy, citrus, soy products, and spicy foods if breast feeding. These may be transferred through your milk and are not tolerated well by baby.

    • 2

Play soft music, turn on the clothes dryer, or play white noise to try calming baby.

    • 3

Take a warm bath or shower with baby. The combination of your closeness, the sound of running water, and the warm water on babies skin may just do the trick! Have white noise or the dryer running, so that baby isn't shocked out of calmness when water is turned off.

    • 4

Try motion. Take baby for a walk in the stroller or a drive in the car. If you can't get out of the house, baby can still ride around the living room in the stroller!

    • 5

Place a warm water bottle on baby's tummy. This can also be used to warm baby's bed prior to laying them down to avoid cold sheet shock!

    • 6

Wrap baby snugly in a blanket and rock slowly. This gives the sense of security, somewhat like being in the womb.

    • 7

Try herbal tea. A 4 ounce bottle of herbal tea in between feedings has long been used as a natural remedy for colic. The herbal teas that are tolerated well by babies are chamomile, ginger, catnip and peppermint. Try pouring a cup for yourself to calm your own nerves!

    • 8

Massage your baby. Make slow gentle strokes towards the heart and draw back with no pressure. You can use baby lotion or oil to make the rubbing more pleasurable for baby.

    • 9

Make an appointment with a Chiropractor. They frequently and successfully treat infantile colic with a gentle manipulation specifically modified for babies.

Tips & Warnings

  • There are a variety of machines that play different nature sounds, such as ocean waves, wind, spring rain, or other white noise on the market. Let it run at nap or bedtime to drown out the sound of your household chore noise.

  • Remember, this is trial and error. Not all remedies work for all babies. Try to be patient and give baby time to see which one of these techniques work.

  • If nothing seems to work and you are at your wits end, call a friend or family member to relieve you for a bit. Don't be afraid to ask for help.
