Bake sales usually have little or no overhead cost. They can be very profitable with proper promotion. Your group's bake sale profits can be maximized by taking advantage of free advertising sources. 1. Create a flyer with bake sale details and distribute it to your organization's members. Flyers that have a simple design and are easy to read will catch more readers' attention. If they have to work at finding the purpose of the flyer, people are not likely to take the time to read it.

2. Design and make posters and hang them on community bulletin boards in places such as discount stores, grocery stores and local businesses. Student-designed posters often catch the attention of customers and will stand out from typewritten or computer-printed posters.

3. Submit ads to your organization's newsletter, church bulletins and local newspaper community pages.

4. Build a large sign for the location of the bake sale and begin promotion two to three days prior to the sale. Promotion that takes place too early may give potential customers time for forget or become confused about the date of the actual event.
