How to Pack Glass

If you are preparing to move or need to downsize and put items in storage, you know how worrisome packing glass pieces can be. Not only is glass fragile, it is also prone to dirt and smudges. Glass can become heavy or break if it is packed to tightly. So pack glass properly—it pays off when you unpack it in one piece and when it is ready for display or placement in kitchen cupboards.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step1
Wash and dry all of the glass you plan to pack. Sort the glass on a large table according to size and shape.
Step2
Select a medium size box that is an appropriate shape for your first group of items. Reinforce the bottom of the box with packaging tape.
Step3
Gather clean dish cloths, towels or pot holders, and tissue paper for wrapping.
Step4
Wrap each item separately in tissue paper. Place items in the box so they are snug, but not tight.
Step5
Use dish cloths, towels and potholders to fill in gaps and to cushion the top of the box.
Step6
Close the box and seal it securely with tape.
Step7
Label the box in large, clear letters on the top and sides with "FRAGILE, GLASS."

Tips & Warnings

  • Do not pack glass in large boxes that become heavy or are awkward to carry. You are likely to drop them.
