How to Make Perfect Coffee

Good morning, cup of coffee! There's nothing better than greeting the day with a perfect cup of joe. Why leave the house when you can make your own perfect brew in your pajamas? Learn how to make the perfect coffee for you. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

  1. General Advice

    • 1

Choose high-quality gourmet coffee to your taste, of course. Only the best coffee beans make it from the fields to the drying and roasting plants, and finally, to the bag. Bean quality and its treatment on the way to the bag both affect how it tastes in your cup.

    • 2

Use an opened bag of ground coffee within a week. If you're grinding your own beans, also use the grounds within a week to ensure full flavor and to prevent odor and flavor contamination. Keep all coffee in a well-sealed container in a dry place--not in the refrigerator.

    • 3

Use clean filtered water to make perfect coffee, regardless of how you make it.

    Automatic Drip Coffee Maker

    • 4

Place a clean paper filter or wire mesh filter into the top of the coffeemaker.

    • 5

Place one tablespoon of ground coffee into the filter for each cup of coffee. This is a general guideline; read the coffee bag for specific ratios, or adjust the strength to make your own perfect cup of coffee.

    • 6

Add the appropriate ratio of cold filtered water to the coffeemaker's reservoir, close the lid and hit the go button!

    French Press

    • 7

Place the desired amount of ground coffee into the bottom of the French Press cylinder. Use a coarse grind for best results. If you grind your own coffee, a coarse grind takes roughly 10 seconds or less.

    • 8

Slowly add boiled filtered water to the cylinder while stirring the coffee grounds. Again, in general, use one cup of water per tablespoon of grounds.

    • 9

Top the cylinder with the plunger assembly and allow it to steep for up to four minutes. Then, slowly push the plunger down until it filters the grounds to the bottom of the cylinder. Enjoy your perfect cup of coffee!

Tips & Warnings

  • Experiment with spices such as cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla, and other flavored syrups to tweak your coffee just the way you like it!

  • Be careful when pressing the plunger down. Go slowly--the water can shoot out and burn you if you go too quickly!
