How to Create an Attractive Computer Desktop

The computer desktop is the first thing you see when you start your computer and the last thing you see when you shut it down. In between these two events, it can be a useful organizational tool. For something you spend so much time looking at, it is probably worth putting in a little effort to make it as attractive as possible.

Instructions

1. Change your desktop wallpaper. The fastest way to improve the look of your desktop is by applying a new background image. Right click on your desktop, choose properties and then click on desktop to see your choices. Download new ones at Desktop.org. Place the downloaded files in your Windows folder and they will be available for use.

2. Clear icons, files and folders from your desktop you don't use to make your new wallpaper more visible. Consolidate your files into a few folders for a cleaner look. Click on "Customize Desktop" from the display properties window to remove other icons.

3. Download new desktop themes. Desktop themes will change the color of your toolbars, the look of your start button and sometimes your wallpaper. Go to ThemeXP to find new desktop themes. Download the themes, run the application file and choose your new theme by going to your display properties and choosing the applications tab.

4. Try XDesktopPhoto. This software application will allow you to hang pictures on your desktop for a more personalized look.

5. Use Flickr Wallpaper Rotator to keep your Desktop fresh. The program will automatically change your wallpaper at intervals you specify. Set it to rotate every 24 hours and wake up to a new look for your computer desktop every morning.
