Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Pick up the things that are out of place. Clutter has to be removed in order to clean. The overall job is less daunting if you start out neat and the tidy will follow pretty quickly.
Step2
Make the beds every day. Do this first thing after getting out of bed. It starts the day off right and if someone drops by unexpectedly, you are not rushing about shutting the bedroom doors.
Step3
Stay on top of the laundry, sorting before washing and folding/putting away when finished. Clothes, dirty or clean, take up a large volume of space. Keep the laundry in progress regularly and make sure things get folded and put away instead of piling up.
Step4
Start at the top and work your way down. Dusting kicks up dust, and then what doesn’t get removed settles on what is below. Dust a room from the top (door frames) and work your way down to the lowest tables. Come back to finish the floors in the newly dusted room once it has had a chance to settle to the floor. Don’t bother with sweeping or vacuuming unless you have dusted first.
Step5
Keep your cleaning supplies in a bucket and take it with you from room to room. This will keep you from having to chase them down each time you need them.
Step6
Schedule the cleaning of specific things on a regular basis. Each day, attend to the dishes, beds and picking up. Then, either weekly or by tackling one room each day, rotate through the rooms, dust, change sheets, shake smaller rugs and vacuum. Monthly, get to the details behind the furniture and under the furniture. Vacuum the undersides, wipe down the baseboards and clean the windows. Every 3 to 6 months, clean out storage areas like closets and the garage. Seasonally clean up your outdoor areas before they are put to use.
