If you are using Invisalign to straighten your teeth, you are already spending some of your hard earned cash on your smile. One concern Invisalign users share is the high price of the Invisalign cleaning system. So before you invest more money, check out some ways to clean your aligners using easy to obtain products without emptying your wallet.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Purchase a denture cleaning product designed to soak dentures. Efferdent has been tested by consumers and has received favorable results.
Step2
Soak your aligners using one tablet of the denture cleaner in the morning and one tablet in the evening. It is recommended that you soak the aligners for approximately 1 hour. Mealtimes are a good time to soak as you will remove your aligners to eat anyway.
Step3
Monitor your aligners for any major etching and stop using the cleaner if damage occurs. Compare them to a new set and then determine if any etching or cloudiness you see is a result of normal wear or has been accelerated by cleaning.
Step4
Use baking soda as another cleaner for your Invisaligns. Dissolve 1 tbsp. of baking soda in 1/2 cup of water and soak aligners twice a day for 1 hour. Again, mealtime is a good time to soak as you'll already have removed your aligners.
Step5
Brush aligners with a soft child's toothbrush after you soak them to remove any cleaner particles that remain and rinse thoroughly.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you notice etching or damage to your aligners when using these more economical cleaning methods, you should consider switching to the more expensive, official Invisalign cleaning kit.
