How to Add Toolbars in a Word Processing Program

Toolbars allow you to see at a glance the options included in particular software. An individual toolbar displays single file icons that represent a group of processes of the software. While toolbars are convenient displays on your computer screen, displaying all available toolbars takes up valuable screen space. Make the most of your space by carefully selecting the toolbars you want as permanent displays on your screen and deselecting the others.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Locate the task bar on your screen. To find it, look below the colored program title bar--the very top bar on the screen. The task bar displays the following drop-down menus: File, Edit, View, Favorites, Tools and Help.
Step2
Position the cursor over the task bar. Right click on the bar. A box appears that lists all of the available toolbars for your word processing program. It includes any specialty toolbars you may have downloaded from sources other than the word processor's manufacturer.
Step3
Select the toolbars you want displayed on your screen. Place your cursor over the name of the toolbar you want to select and click on it. A check mark should appear next to the name indicating that the toolbar has been selected for display.
Step4
Select each toolbar to see exactly what the toolbar looks like and what functions it includes. This is the best way to get a thorough understanding of the available toolbars and make an educated decision about which toolbars you do and do not need.

Tips & Warnings

  • To remove a toolbar from your screen, simply reverse the process. Place the cursor over the appropriate toolbar name and click. The check mark next to the name should disappear along with the toolbar.
