Step 1
Create Harry Potter themed invitations. One idea is to make your invitations like the Marauder's Map from the books. You can create a map to your house on parchment paper and be sure to include Hogwarts locations along the way. Another idea is to make invitations that resemble a story in the "Daily Prophet," the newspaper featured in Harry Potter books.
-
Step 2
Decorate your house like Hogwarts. Use a prop wizard hat or make your own to be a sorting hat center piece. Set up different tables to represent the different houses of Hogwarts: Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Slytherin and Hufflepuff. Use novelty cobwebs, spiders and anything else to give your house an old, haunted feel.
-
Step 3
Dress up as the characters. Have adults dress up as Dumbledore, Snape, McGonagall or other Hogwarts staff members. Have children dress as Harry, Ron, Hermoine, Draco or other students from Hogwarts. Attire should include robes, wants, broomsticks, wizard hats for professors and any other wizard or witch accessories.
-
Step 4
Serve Harry Potter themed foods. Some ideas are Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans, which you can buy at many candy stores or just use assorted jelly beans, chocolate frogs, prank candy like the Weasley twins would hand out, hot apple cider and any other foods you might pull from the books. Be creative with the food.
-
Step 5
Play games that are Harry Potter inspired. Have a "guess the number of jelly beans" game that is Bertie Bott themed. Play a non-flying game of quidditch. Have Harry Potter trivia and even have a magic show.

Step 6
Make party favors. You could make wands, miniature broomsticks or lighting-shaped "scar" stickers to put on attendees' foreheads.
