Many illnesses can be easily prevented with a few precautions. You may be passing on germs unknowingly and others may be spreading germs to you. You can try to avoid getting sick by learning how to stop passing on germs.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Antibacterial Handwipes
  • Disinfectant
  • Water
  • Soap

Step1
Wash hands often. It is important to wash hands before cooking or eating food, after sneezing or coughing and after using the restroom. Wash hands in other situations such as changing diapers, pumping gas and using shared office equipment as well.
Step2
Scrub your hands thoroughly. Health care workers suggest washing your hands for 15 to 30 seconds. Run hands under warm water and use soap.
Step3
Teach kids how to wash properly as well. Some tricks for kids include washing until they have said the alphabet or finished singing "Happy Birthday."
Step4
Get yearly vaccines for influenza. Also get specific vaccines if you are traveling. Ask your health care provider for recommendations.
Step5
Wipe hands with antibacterial hand wipes or lotion when you are not able to wash hands with soap and water.
Step6
Disinfect shared office equipment at work. Disinfect your phone, remote control, door knobs and children's toys at home.
