If you need help preparing for the Secondary School Admission Test (SSAT) and you are not sure where to turn, try looking for a tutor. Locating a tutor to help with your SSAT prep is probably easier than you think. Here are a few things you can do to locate a tutor and get prepared to get the best score you possibly can on the test.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step1
Contact the SSAT Board. They will know which tutors are most qualified to help you with SSAT prep. Contact information can be found on the SSAT website.
Step2
Check with the school that is requiring you to take the SSAT. Ask the administration if they can refer you to someone who can help you prepare for the test.
Step3
Consider buying a SSAT prep DVD. These are usually a less costly option than paying for a private tutor.
Step4
Try preparing for the SSAT through Tutor.com. They have online libraries to browse and an introductory offer for a reasonable fee for private one on one tutoring.
Step5
Check the credentials of the tutoring facility you choose before paying any fees. Ask them about the tutor’s education, experience and references. Be sure to check all qualifications.
Step6
Set goals with your tutor and work to meet them. Goals help focus your tutor time and make it more productive.

Tips & Warnings

  • When preparing for the SSAT, choose scheduling the tutor at times when you will be most alert and ready to learn.
  • Consider scheduling more than one lesson a week. Repetition of the information you are learning will help you retain it better, therefore raise your SSAT score.

on 6/10/2007 Talk about a challenge! The commercial guides were OK, buy my son was not able to stay focused. That material is very complicated. Tutors were too expensive ($80/hour). Then we found www.MyTutorOnDVD.com and www.SSATtutor.com. It had several practice tests and lots of sample questions - not to mention the 30+ hours of instruction on DVD. Great product.

on 6/10/2007 Great suggestions. Because of our busy schedule, we opted for SSAT prep on DVD. I looked around and the best was, by far, www.MyTutorOnDVD.com and www.SSATtutor.com. No driving, great instruction, inexpensive - 5 stars all the way!
