How to Find a Sports Shooting Club

Due to an increased interest in shooting, sports shooting clubs are increasing in number and in membership. Finding a sports shooting club near you is becoming easier. Chances are that if your town has a shooting range it will also have at least one sports shooting club. Even specialized sports shooting clubs that may match your shooting interests are popping up in rural and urban areas alike.

1. Call local shooting ranges and inquire about any active sports shooting clubs that use their facilities. Many shooting ranges host monthly range events for shooting clubs and keep contact information for club leaders on file for just this purpose.

2. Search for sports shooting clubs online using Web sites such as "Shooting Sports." Web sites that are devoted to sports shooting will often have detailed information listed for clubs, associations and organizations.

3. Look for sports shooting clubs targeted specifically for your gender, age group or specific interest. Being the lone woman or young adult in the midst of a male dominated shooting club may cause you to feel ill at ease. Also, rifle enthusiasts may not be happy in a club that tailors more to handgun sports shooting.

4. Talk to other shooters at your local shooting range. Fellow shooting range patrons may belong to a sports shooting club and can offer an insider's view of the club for your consideration. If no one belongs to a club, consider asking if they are interested in forming one!
