Instructions
  1. Step 1

Start with references such as encyclopedias and overviews to learn about important events in Canada's history. Read the most recent edition of "An Illustrated History of Canada," rated highly by Amazon readers. Also try "A Short History of Canada" by Desmond Morton, which has gone through several editions.

  2. Step 2

Tthe World Wide Web Virtual Library from European University Institute in Florence. It includes reference tools and sources by time period or topic.

  3. Step 3

Visit the McCord Museum of Canadian History in downtown Montreal, across from McGill University. It has over 1.3 million ways for you to experience Canada's history. Even its web site offers thematic tours and virtual exhibitions.

  4. Step 4

Check your local university course catalog for lectures and seminars in Canadian studies. The University of Maine, for example, offers courses like Colonial Canada, French-Canadian History and Special Topics in Canadian History. Find out more by calling its Canadian-American Center at (207) 581-4220.
