Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Seek out books on Canadian history, and see if your local college or university offers any courses focusing on it. A grounding in history will help you place the traditions in context.

  2. Step 2

Get an overview of Canada's cultural traditions. As you examine traditions, think about the differences among English, French and Native traditions. You will find each represented fully in Canadian traditions. You can learn about traditions through internet research or books on Canadian culture.

  3. Step 3

Examine how holidays are celebrated in Canada. Traditions around holidays are an important part of a culture and give insight into the culture as a whole. Conduct online research for Canada Day, Victoria Day, Boxing Day, Thanksgiving and other holidays that you celebrate.

  4. Step 4

Take classes in Canadian topics, such as literature or film. Survey classes will give you an overview of the topic in a single semester. Though these classes probably won't teach you about traditions specifically, you will gain an understanding of Canadian culture as a whole.

  5. Step 5

Plan a tour of Canada. Canada is a large and diverse country. To best understand its traditions, visit its major regions. As you travel, keep your eyes open for traditions you've learned about and ask Canadians about them. An insider's view is always the best!
