Finding ideas for a small business opportunity can seem overwhelming, but if you create a goal for yourself and take small steps to reach that goal, it can be successful. Successfully running a small business can be one of the most rewarding experiences in your life.

  • Notebook and pencil
  • Access to the internet
  • Computer
  • A Journal to keep track of your progress
  1. Step 1

    Get out a piece of paper and write down some of your business goals. Decide how much money you would like to spend on your business opportunity. View your budget to see how much funds you have available to begin your business.

  2. Step 2

    Brainstorm what kinds of business opportunities that you might be interested in. Think about the kind of business that you would like to get into. Write down about 5-10 business ideas that you believe that you could make possible.

  3. Step 3

    Narrow your choices down to your favorite three business ideas.

  4. Step 4

    Begin doing research on your favorite three business ideas. Find out how much money it would take to begin your business. Also think about your time schedule and when you would like to start your business. Look up subjects on Google such as "starting a small business," "marketing," "advertising," and also check out some accounting tips as well.

  5. Step 5

    Make a list of pros and cons about each business after you have researched all three of your topics.

  6. Step 6

    Examine your list of pros and cons to find out which business opportunity would work right for you.

  • Do some research on beginning a small business and other opportunties. Start by visiting Web sites about small businesses.
  • Always keep a notebook or a journal nearby to keep track of all of your research and business progress.
  • The quality of your business depends on the time and effort that you put into it.
  • Watch out for opportunities that sound too good to be true. There may be opportunities that promise thousands of dollars within a month. These kinds of opportunities are impossible.
  • Don't get overwhelmed all at once. Starting a new business of any kind takes time. Step one foot in front of the other.
