How to Learn from Hip Hop Dance Videos

Hip-hop dancing is a funky, fresh rhythmic dance style that is all the rage in lots of urban communities. The moves are popular from the club scene to exercise classes. If you can’t get to the club to learn these funky moves, just chill. You can learn the moves from a hip hop dance video.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Visit your local library to find current hip hop dance videos for beginners. You may be able to also find books on hip-hop dance moves.

  2. Step 2

    Check local consignment shops for used videos.

  3. Step 3

    Shop online at places like eBay and Nobody Smiling to find a wide selection of how-to videos.

  4. Step 4

    Study the hip hop artists on the videos to learn the moves. Break your learning curve down into manageable portions by learning one move per day.

  5. Step 5

    Download the video to your iPod to take with you so that you can study it from wherever you are. You can watch your video on your iPod while you’re at a basketball game, waiting for the bus or even weightlifting at the gym.

  6. Step 6

    Practice the dance moves at a set time each day. Practice makes perfect. An hour a day for practice will help you hone and sharpen your dance skills.

  7. Step 7

    Increase your video library as you learn and perfect various dance moves. This will keep your learning interest motivated and allow you to refer back to other videos as needed.

Tips & Warnings
  • Videos from the early '80s and '90s are still a good source to find steps that can be made current with a few twists.
  • Exercise frequently to keep your arms and legs limber to sharpen your performance that the videos demand.
