How to Play Right Field in Baseball
Let's be honest. Early on, if you're told to play right field, your coach doesn't have a lot of confidence in your ability. At higher levels of play, this is hardly the case. Some of baseball's greatest players were right fielders, like Roberto Clemente. So if you're a beginning player, and you're told to play right field, hold your head up and take pride. With work, you may someday be another Roberto Clemente.

1
Play catch until you can catch and throw a baseball with great skill.
-
2
Learn to catch fly balls. Develop your skills by practicing whenever you can. Practice can be in the form of games like "500" while using a rubber ball. Learn to predict the flight of a ball by the sound it makes as it comes off a bat and by its initial flight.
-
3
Work on your hitting ability. Use methods to improve your hand eye coordination such as playing wiffle ball, going to the batting cage or engaging in soft pitch sessions.
-
4
Work on other offensive skills such as bunting, hitting behind a runner, and base stealing.
-
5
Try to play "long toss" three times per week to develop arm strength.
-
6
Develop a year around training program that centers on basic skills and hand eye coordination. These two areas are greatly enhanced by ongoing repetition. By committing to such a program there will be no "lag" when baseball season begins.
