How to Cook Perfect Rice

Too hard, too soft, too gummy--there are many ways to get rice wrong and not enough to get it right. Even if you follow the directions on the back of the package the rice can still fall short. Follow these simple steps and you're guaranteed perfect rice every time. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Fill a medium sized pot with water and bring to a rapid boil.

    • 2

Measure out the amount of rice you want to cook and put it in the pot.

    • 3

Bring the pot back to a boil and keep the heat on high.

    • 4

Cook the rice for about 10 minutes and then check to see if the rice is done. How hard or soft you like your rice is up to you. You want to check to see if it is as tender as you like it.

    • 5

Continue to let it boil on high if the rice still isn't done and check it until it is ready.

    • 6

Move the rice immediately from the heat once it is done. Strain, fluff and serve.

Tips & Warnings

  • Never let the water boil out of the pot. If the rice is still not done and the water is getting low just fill the pot up with more water.

  • Don't turn the heat down. The idea is that you know what rice tastes like when it's done, so there isn't any need to turn the heat down and let the rice simmer. Just keep the heat on high until the rice is done.

I never had a problem cooking with rice since I learned how to do it. I believe it is the easiest to cook of all, LOL! Anyway, I came from Asia & we are well-known to be rice eaters. You have an interesting method of cooking rice, though. If you are interested I also have an article written about cooking rice. You may want to check it out...:-)
