How to Ace a College Interview

A college interview can be a nerve wracking experience for a perspective student. Many students do not know what to expect and worry about the questions that the interviewer will ask them. With a little preparation, you will have no problem acing that college interview.

Step1
Read about the college. Check out their course offerings and any other information that will help you answer questions about the college during the interview.
Step2
Prepare your answers ahead of time. Consider the questions that the interviewer may ask and decide on your answers. Generally, a college interviewer will ask questions like: Why do you want to attend this university? What are your future plans? What are your strengths and weaknesses?
Step3
Write down all of your answers and try to memorize them. Ask a friend of family member to do a mock interview with you beforehand. Make your answers sound natural.
Step4
Wake up early on the day of the interview. Give yourself plenty of time to get dressed and travel to the university. You don't want to go into the interview stressed.
Step5
Dress appropriately. Wear clothes that you would wear to a job interview. Slacks, skirts, nice shirts and dress shoes are all options you can choose from.
Step6
Ask questions. An interviewer wants to see a student that is engaged and wants to know more about the college.

Tips & Warnings

  • Remember to prepare for difficult questions during the interview. An interviewer may bring up a poor grade or your lack of participation in extracurricular activities.
  • No jeans, hats, t-shirts or sneakers should be worn to a college interview.
