How to Deal With a Blister When Running

Blisters are painful and can especially hinder a jogger if they occur during a run. Blisters are likely to develop on the soles of the feet and on the toes. If you have a blister while you are running, there are ways to deal with it until you arrive at your destination.

Instructions

    • 1

Loosen your shoes. Many times blisters are caused by ill-fitting running shoes. If your shoes are too tight, loosen the laces in order to give you more room.

    • 2

Carry a small container of powder in your running pack. If you apply the powder to your feet, it will relieve the moisture that can cause and worsen blisters.

    • 3

Use petroleum jelly as a lubricant for your feet. This can help you deal with the blister by preventing traction while you continue to run.

    • 4

Bring along a blister treatment bandage. Band-Aid makes a particularly effective product called Band-Aid Advance Healing Blister. These cushions provide relief while also protecting the blister from popping.

    • 5

Run at a slower pace. Many times running at a faster pace will irritate the blister and cause new ones to form as well.

    • 6

Change your socks. If you have access to a new pair of socks while you are running, you should put on a new pair in order to prevent further sweating.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure you break in running shoes in order to prevent blisters from forming.

  • Make sure you pop the blister at home if it is still causing you pain. To do this, sterilize a needle and drain the fluid out. Place a bandage over the cleaned area until it heals.
