Step 1
Research the company who is interviewing you. Relevant information can be found at the company’s website and also in various business publications like Fortune magazine and your local newspaper.
-
Step 2
Review your resume and any supporting materials you sent to the potential employer. In the event they ask you about specifics, you want to be able to recall what they have seen so far.
-
Step 3
Shadow a salesperson for a day or two. Following someone who has the job you want will give you an insider’s view into sales. This will also help you prepare in the event the interviewer asks, “What do you know about sales?”
-
Step 4
Go over potential interview questions. Many can be found online at sites such as the Job Interview Questions website. Schedule a mock interview with a friend or even a career services center, if you are currently enrolled at a college or university. Preparation like this will ease your sales job interview jitters.
-
Step 5
List a few questions of your own. Interviewers always ask, “Do you have any questions for me?”
-
Step 6
Relax. If you prepare adequately, the rest is up to the employer. If it’s meant to be, the sales job you want will be yours.
