How to Baby Proof Kitchen Cabinets

Baby proof your kitchen cabinets and you'll relax, knowing that your child can safely play in the kitchen while you are busy preparing meals, doing dishes or cleaning. Follow these steps.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Move all hazardous chemicals and toxic substances out of baby's reach.

  2. Step 2

    Store valuable breakables on a high shelf or in a high cupboard.

  3. Step 3

    Count all cabinets and drawers that you will need to have locked and purchase enough latches and locks for the drawers and cabinets.

  4. Step 4

    Install cabinet locks on all cabinets that contain hazardous or breakable materials by following the installation instructions from the manufacturer.

  5. Step 5

    Place drawer locks on all drawers containing sharp and dangerous items.

  6. Step 6

    Empty one cabinet and lower drawer of all dangerous materials; fill these with toys, plastic items and other objects safe enough for baby to handle.

  7. Step 7

    Test all cabinets and drawers for proper locking of cabinets latches and drawer locks before turning baby loose in your baby-proofed kitchen.

Tips & Warnings
  • Plastic bags and trash bags are extremely dangerous. Move these items to a high location out of baby's reach.
