How to Eliminate Skunk Spray

While they're relatively harmless, a frightened skunk can leave you with quite a funky problem. Time and ventilation will work eventually, but here's how you can quickly eliminate skunk spray.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Bleach

    Eliminate Skunk Spray from a Pet

  1. Step 1

    Mix together 1/4 cup of baking soda with 1 tsp. of liquid detergent and 1 quart of 3 percent hydrogen peroxide.

  2. Step 2

    Wash the pet with this mixture, scrubbing it into the hair.

  3. Step 3

    Rinse the pet with clean water after five minutes.

  4. Step 4

    Repeat as necessary.

  5. Eliminate Skunk Spray from an Area

  6. Step 1

    Mix 1 cup bleach with a gallon of water.

  7. Step 2

    Soak the sprayed area with the bleach solution.

  8. Step 3

    Rinse the area with clean water.

  9. Step 4

    Repeat if necessary.

Tips & Warnings
  • Tomato juice doesn't actually eliminate skunk spray. You need to get the spray off your pet.
  • The bleach solution might bleach anything it comes into contact with. Test an area if you're not sure whether you should use it.
