Gas grills need to be regularly cleaned and maintained if you want to safely cook up tasty barbecue. Follow these steps to clean a gas grill with materials you have around the house.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Container filled with warm, soapy water
  • Grill Brush
  • Scouring Pads
  • Spatula
  1. Step 1

Check for safety first! Before you begin to clean a gas grill make sure to completely disconnect the propane gas tank and that the controls are in the off position. For absolute safety, completely remove the propane tank.

  2. Step 2

Use soap and water. Yep, soap and water is still the best cleaning solution. Use a common liquid dishwashing soap designed for cutting grease and mix it with warm or hot water in a large container or bucket.

  3. Step 3

Remove the grill racks from the gas grill and place the racks directly in the soapy water. Let the grill racks soak for at least 30 minutes or longer depending upon how much grease build up is present. You can also place the drip guard right in the bucket with the racks to remove built up grease on the drip guard.

  4. Step 4

Check the burners because clogged burners can mean reduced cooking efficiency. Consult your owner's manual on removal of the burners. To clean them simply use a soft cloth soaked in soapy water to remove any built-up grease or debris. Replace the burners after you have finished cleaning your grill.

  5. Step 5

Scrape the inside walls clean. You don't need a fancy or abrasive brush to clean the inner walls of the grill. A sturdy spatula will do the trick.

  6. Step 6

Remove remaining particles from inside the grill by using a hand-held or wet-dry vacuum.

  7. Step 7

Rinse off any excess soap after the grill rack and drip guard have finished soaking and replace them back inside the grill. If baked-on grease remains, use a grill-cleaning brush to remove any remaining residue.

Tips & Warnings
  • Do not use a metal grill cleaning brush on porcelain grills as this will cause damage. Use a scouring pad instead.
