You can beautify the grounds of your home by building a pond and reveling in the serenity it provides. Just follow these steps.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging

Things You’ll Need:

  • Shovel
  • Rake
  • 14-inch 28-gauge roofing flashing
  • 1/2-inch PVC pipe cut into 2 pieces
  • Roofing felt
  • Pond liner pump
  • Hose clamps
  • Tubing for waterfall

Step1
Dig a hole vertically about 14-inches deep. The hole should be the size and shape of the pond. Keep the dirt close to be used later, placing in a ring around the pond about a foot or two away.

Step2
Reinforce the sides of the pond. Support the sides with 28-gauge roofing flashing. Push PVC pipe stakes 6 inches into the ground to hold the flashing in place.

Step3
Smooth the bottom and sides of the pond by clipping all roots and removing rocks. Then cover the bottom and sides with roofing felt.
Step4
Place the liner inside the pond. Make sure there will be at least 6 inches extra around the edges.
Step5
Fill the pond with water. Keep the bottom and sides smooth by pulling out wrinkles and folding in corners and curves as it fills up.
Step6
Place stones or bricks around the edge of the pond. They will need to overhang the edges by about 1 or 2 inches.
Step7
Pull the excess liner over the top of the first layer of stones. Secure them in place with more stones, and keep adding stones until the liner is not visible.

Step8
Rake the misplaced dirt back toward the pond to cover excess liner and secure rocks in place.
