How to Sanitize a Fish Tank

Fish require minimal care, requiring only daily feedings and periodic tank washings. Maintaining a clean tank will keep your fish healthier. Follow these steps.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Use a net to catch the fish and remove them from the tank. Place them into another safe container with water until the tank is clean.

  2. Step 2

    Empty the water from fish tank.

  3. Step 3

    Remove all accessories and gravel from the tank.

  4. Step 4

    Wash the accessories with warm water.

  5. Step 5

    Rinse the gravel in a strainer over the sink.

  6. Step 6

    Use a sponge to clean algae off the sides of the fish tank.

  7. Step 7

    Fill the fish tank back with water.

  8. Step 8

    Return the fish to the clean water.
