How to Enjoy a Visit to the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago

Chicago's Shedd Aquarium is the world's largest indoor aquarium, an exciting, educational adventure for adults and children. Follow the tips below to get the most out of your next visit.

1. Come early and save money on parking. There are five covered parking garages within walking distance of Shedd Aquarium. Be in the garage by 9:30 a.m. to pay a cheaper fee.

2. Visit during the aquarium's least busy times: Sunday mornings, Mondays and Tuesdays. Exhibits often are sold out on the busiest days which are holidays and weekends.

3. Pack a lunch to save money. Although Shedd Aquarium offers a food court, vending machines and a restaurant, pack your lunch for a cheap meal. There are many places in the aquarium to sit and rest and have a bite to eat.

4. Plan on walking. There are over 4,500 square feet to Shedd Aquarium, so wear comfortable shoes and bring a stroller if you have small children. Bulky strollers can be hard to maneuver however, especially on a busy day.

5. Find seating for the dolphin shows at least 30 minutes in advance. The place fills up quickly and seats are limited.

6. Visit on a discount day, when general admission is free. These days can be found on the calendar on Shedd Aquarium's website under Discounts.

7. Secure personal belongings in one of the lockers provided by Shedd Aquarium. These lockers are coin-operated.
