Learn How To Join A Mystery Book Group

Step1
Locate a mystery book group that meets in your area by browsing the available groups listed by state provided by Mystery Readers International. Many of the book groups listed meet in cafes, bookstores, or other public places. Some include links to their Web sites.
Step2
Have a chat with your local librarian next time you're checking out some books from the mystery section. He or she might know of some mystery book groups that meet in your city or even at the library itself.
Step3
Subscribe to a mystery newsletter, magazine or other periodical. These publications usually provide resources and reader forums where information about mystery book groups can be found. There are scores of mystery publications available. Some are online, on newsstands and in bookstores.
Step4
Visit your local bookstore(s) and inquire as to whether they have a mystery book group meeting there, or if they know of any in the area. Quite often, larger book retailers offer meeting space on-site to mystery book groups to get together on a weekly or monthly basis.
Step5
Keep track of local appearances of your favorite mystery authors. Often, a mystery book group will attend the same event.

Tips & Warnings

  • You don't have to be an expert sleuth to join a mystery book group, nor is having every Agatha Christie in your collection a prerequisite to participation.
  • Introduce yourself to the group when you join by telling the other members something about yourself and what mystery books and authors you enjoy reading most.
  • It's a good idea to maintain a list of your mystery book group members with accurate contact information, especially those who are involved in facilitation of the group.
