Learn How To Host A Book Group Party

Step1
Decide on a theme and a suitable location at which to host a party for your book group. Factors to consider are the size of your group and what kind of facility is needed to accommodate its members.
Step2
Invite your book group members to your home, if you have the space available. You could get together for a poetry reading, reenact scenes from your favorite comedy or drama, or just simply socialize over wine and crackers.
Step3
Meet for a meal. Take your entire book group to a cafe or restaurant for a roundtable rendezvous and split the tab.
Step4
Suggest a social for your book group at your local bookstore. Some merchants might be very agreeable to providing special coupons for your members to purchase books or other merchandise at a discount party rate--especially if you have a fairly large membership.
Step5
Take a break from books and organize a trip to see a theater event instead, such as a play, musical concert, performance art, or a dance ensemble.
Step6
Plan a literary trivia game night for your book group. You could cull the trivia questions from material previously discussed by the group, or base the game on old classics for a greater challenge.
Step7
Host a literary-themed mystery party for your book group in which everyone gets to play a character and be part of the mystery. You can write the mystery yourself if you have the time and inclination. You could also purchase a mystery party kit from a game or toy store, or have one customized for your theme and group size from Mystery Cafe.

Tips & Warnings

  • As host, plan to provide the appropriate refreshments according to size and nature of your party.
  • If you plan to host a party for a large book group, it might be a good idea to ask for volunteers to help cook, provide music and clean up afterwards.
