Things You'll Need:
- Professional entertainers
- Party equipment
-
Step 1
Plan ahead of time. You can talk to party companies. They may have clowns, hayrides or petting zoos available for the kids to enjoy.
-
Step 2
Find local bands. You can even hire some teenaged neighbors who have their own bands or just opt for more established local groups.
-
Step 3
Rent party equipment. Bounce houses are inflatable, covered rooms that simulate the fun of a trampoline without the danger of a hard fall to the ground. Kids love them and it will keep them occupied for hours.
-
Step 4
Entertain guests and rent a dance floor. You can play a variety of music with selections ranging from rock and pop to country. Be sure to let the kids play their own music or rent a second dance floor just for the kids.
-
Step 5
Talk to the fire department. You can usually get them to provide free demonstrations about fire safety and tours of the fire truck.
-
Step 6
Look for a magician or mime. This type of entertainment is quiet and won't disturb neighbors who are not attending the block party. Everyone can enjoy trick card games or the riddles of a mime's gestures.
-
Step 1
Encourage neighbors to bring their own entertainment. You can section off a part of the street for street hockey or basketball at a neighbor's hoop.
-
Step 2
Start a game of Limbo. All ages can participate in this fun game where contestants try to walk under a rope that is lowered after each turn.
-
Step 3
Create a cook off. Chili or pies are ideal foods to prepare for cook offs. Neighbors can make signature family recipes and then bring them to the block party for a judge's review.
-
Step 4
Make use of the front yard. Kids can play in a sprinkler or miniature pools. Adults can play a game of croquet.
-
Step 5
Set up a karaoke machine. Both kids and adults will find songs they can sing and families can even have a sing-along.
