Your beach party invitation is the first step in setting the mood for your event. Show friends and family what type of party they should expect. Pick invitations that give you room to lay out the details of the day or make your own invitations with a one-of-a-kind design.

Pick Beach Party Invitations

Step1
Evaluate a selection of invitations at a party or craft store. Decide if you want cards with labeled sections or ones that are blank on the inside, allowing you to write your own details. Pick invitations that have a beach, fish, ocean or sailboat theme symbolic of your event.
Step2
Add whimsical touches inside the envelope to make your invitations more festive. Buy a bag of small seashells at a craft store and insert one before you address the envelope.

Make Your Own Beach Party Invitations

Step1
Purchase a pastel- or sandstone-colored card stock at a craft store like Michael's or A.C. Moore. Decide what size and shape you want your invitation to be. You can get a postcard style that is one sheet or little folded cards of varying shapes and sizes.
Step2
Establish a method to use for decorating you cards. Pick a design that is fun and lets people know what the theme of your beach party is. If you're hosting a '60s-style beach party, paste images (cut from old magazines) to your invitations. Find magazines at thrift stores and tag sales, or ask relatives if you can loot their basements and attics.
Step3
Pick a blank panel invitation. Add craft glue around the edges and sprinkle with sand to create a border. Be sure and write out your invitations before you do this. Let the sand-tinted panel dry thoroughly before inserting it in an envelope.
Step4
Make invitations utilizing scrapbook supplies. Purchase sky blue, pre-folded card stock and a pack of beach ball cutouts. Place three cutouts on the front of your card (in a zigzag pattern) using foam tape. You can substitute the beach balls with seashells, sunglasses or anything similar.
Step5
Pick a written statement for your invitations. Add quotations such as "Life's a Beach" or "Fun in the Sun" on the front of your card with markers or pre-made stickers. Find supplies, card stock and scrapbook ideas at Paperwishes.com.

Tips & Warnings

  • Have plenty of return address labels on hand when you begin writing your invitations. Order some pre-printed labels with a beach theme to add to your invites.
  • Over-sized or unusually shaped cards may cost more to mail. You may want to mail your invitations with the help of a postal employee to ensure you use the correct amount of postage.
