Learn How to Select a Theme for a Slumber Party

  1. Step 1

Go medieval. Select a medieval/Renaissance theme for your slumber party and ask everyone to wear simple cotton nightgowns or similar comfortable clothing. If you hold your party outdoors, you could be inspired to create a miniature medieval village with castle banners, a bonfire and torches. You could even take turns reading select passages from the great bard himself, Shakespeare.

  2. Step 2

Shiver your timbers and gather 'round your mates for a pirate-themed slumber party. You could pass out chocolate gold coins to snack on while watching some movies that relate to this theme, such as the "Pirates of the Caribbean" series.

  3. Step 3

Put together a round-the-world theme for your slumber party. You could decorate your space with colorful posters depicting locations around the globe and serve an array of international foods. Top off the night with a selection of foreign movies, especially ones with subtitles.

  4. Step 4

Have a paranormal theme for your slumber party. Entertain your guests with tarot readings and hair-raising tales of ghost stories and UFO sightings. If you're so inclined, you could select a few horror movies or thrillers, like some Alfred Hitchcock classics.

  5. Step 5

Plan a simple, relaxing spa night. Ask your friends to share their favorite recipes for homemade creams and facials and make them together. You could also take turns giving facial massages to each other. Heaven!

  6. Step 6

Ask your guests to arrive in costume to portray a famous character from the movies or literature. You could make a game out of asking each person a series of questions about her character and try to guess who everyone is. You could also hand out simple prizes for correct guesses.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be sure to announce your theme when you send out your invitations, including any specific recommendations for dress, food or other items to bring.
  • Have lots of film on hand to capture the special moments.
  • Exercise caution and reasonable safety measures if you're going to have a bonfire outdoors during your slumber party.
  • Be considerate of your neighbors (if applicable) when holding your slumber party outside and keep the giggles down after a reasonable hour.
