Step 1
Use the American Birding Association or your state birding association to help find a local birding group. Call the birding group and ask about membership. Some organizations may let you apply for membership over the phone or Internet, but some may only take membership applications in person.
-
Step 2
Know that membership to a birding association often requires a fee, though the price tag is generally inexpensive. Some birding associations have no membership fee but a donation is appreciated.
-
Step 3
Ask your coworkers, family and friends about who may be a bird enthusiast. Smaller birding associations--ones that are specific to a small region or to a specific bird--may not show up on the Internet or in the phone directory. Using your people network may help uncover one of those small birding groups. You may also find a group of people that would like to start a birding group of their own.
-
Step 1
Hop on to the Internet and go to the American Birding Association's Web site or the National Audubon Society's Web site.
-
Step 2
Click the link to join the organization and fill out the membership form. You can also send a gift membership through the American Birding Association, if you know of someone who would like to join.
-
Step 3
Fill in all of the pertinent fields of the membership form. Be sure to read through each line so as not to miss anything important. Also, double check the membership form before submission.
-
Step 4
Pay for your membership online by providing your credit card information.
-
Step 5
Mail in your application and payment if you are uncomfortable with sending your payment over the Internet. Simply print the membership form you see on the screen, fill it out and mail it in.
