Things You'll Need:
- Clay pots
- Coffee filters
- Compost or soil
- Small garden tools
- Herbal tea recipes
- Herb plants
-
Step 1
Select an appropriate container for your tea garden. You may prefer to have everything confined to one large container, or maybe you’d prefer to have a grouping of container tea gardens to allow enough room for your plants to thrive. Clay pots work well for proper drainage.
-
Step 2
Purchase nutrient-rich potting soil or compost. Be certain your pot has good drainage holes in the bottom and place a coffee filter over the drainage holes to prevent soil from leaking out. Fill your pot almost completely full with the soil.
-
Step 3
Choose herbal tea plants that please you and will make fine teas. Search online for herbal tea recipes to help you select plants, or choose herbs from the mint and balm family. Other excellent plants include different sage plants, pot marigold, cilantro, lavender, and basil.
-
Step 4
Plant your herbs according to the instructions that come with each plant. Don’t overcrowd plants but do group the herbs according to what is pleasing to you.
-
Step 5
Place your container in a location of that gets direct, full sun. Herbs thrive in full sun with well-drained soil.
-
Step 6
Use your herbs on a regular basis to keep them pruned and well-maintained so they don’t become overcrowded in the container garden. The whole purpose of creating an herbal tea garden is to enjoy the fruits of your labor and to soothe body, mind and soul!
