How to Enjoy a Trip to Possum Kingdom State Park, Texas

Possum Kingdom State Park has long been known as "The Great Lake of Texas.' Boasting more than 18,000 acres, this beautiful park is burrowed in the foothills of the Palo Pinto mountain range located about 75 miles west of Fort Worth, Texas. Follow these steps to enjoy your next trip there.

      Dive at one of the best freshwater destinations in the Southwest. Possum Kingdom is the home to the world's largest certified air station and has an excellent dive park. The clear deep water is perfect for becoming a certified diver. It is possible to become certified in only 2 days.

      Shop at the privately owned marina/store. The store is stocked with tackle, camping supplies, groceries, souvenir t-shirts, cold drinks and firewood. The marina offers boat rentals and a gas dock.

      Eat in one of the many restaurants within a few miles range of the lake. From pizza, Mexican, USDA Prime steaks to down home cooked meals, there are many places to choose from.

      Hike the trails of Possum Kingdom. The trails wind all around the lake and into the beautifully rugged canyon country. Many white-tailed deer call the area home. Bring along your binoculars and do some deer- or bird watching.
