Finding a lost hamster may take several days or even weeks. After a while, you may feel that your efforts are hopeless. Don’t give up yet. Here are some tricks that will help you find your missing pet.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Hamster food
  • Aluminum foil
  • Flour
  • Humane mouse trap
  • Patience
Step1
Search the whole house methodically. Pay special attention to possible hiding places, such as under beds, furniture and in closets.
Step2
Look under and inside boxes, such as shoe boxes, toy boxes, or any other container that may provide possible hideouts for your hamster.
Step3
Put some hamster food in each room to lure it out. Lay aluminum foil on areas on the floor leading to the food so that when the hamster does appear, you will be able to hear it crawling on the foil. Close the doors of all the rooms.
Step4
Sprinkle flour on areas of possible hideouts in each room. That way when it does venture out, you will be able to see traces of its footprints. Close the doors.
Step5
Clean out the hamster’s cage. Put plenty of bedding material and food in the cage and leave it on the floor. Keep the cage door open. If the hamster finds its way to the cage, hopefully, it will crawl back in and seek the comfort of his burrow.
Step6
Sprinkle some sunflower seeds or some of your hamster’s favorite food, such as yogurt drops or peanut butter, on small crackers on the floor leading to the cage entrance.
Step7
Buy a humane mouse trap to find your lost hamster if all else fails. Get one that traps rather than one that kills.
Step8
Search in the night when hamsters are more active, since it will probably come to search for food or exercise.
