It is not difficult to get a hunting license in Alabama, but it is the law and you will be expected to follow the rules of the hunt. All hunters sixteen years old and above are required to have a license. Follow these steps to obtain one.

  • Alabama Drivers License or Identification Card
  • Proof of Residency
Step1
Decide what game you wan to hunt. Beaver, coyote, deer, opossum, raccoon, squirrel, nutria, fox, mountain lion, bear, groundhog, bobcat, red wolf, feral swine and rabbit are all fair game.
Step2
Choose the areas that you wish to hunt in. Some areas are broken into counties; others are sectioned pieces of land. Each section has its own season. Check with the Alabama Wildlife Department for updated information. Most dates will be similar from year to year, with changes when wildlife populations change.
Step3
Take a state certified course in hunting safety. This course is required for all hunters sixteen years and older. Proof that you completed this class will be needed only when first applying for a hunting license.
Step4
Apply for a license for hunting or trapping online. Other places to apply are sports stores, over the phone or apply by mail.
Step5
Opt for the year round hunting license if you plan to hunt different game all year long. It costs more upfront but it represents the cheapest option. This is the only option an out of state resident can choose if they are hunting deer or turkey.
Step6
Select the Lifetime Hunting license if plant to hunt in Alabama for years to come. You pay only the one fee and never have to pay to renew. If you are 64 or older, you can get the license at a discount.
Step7
Send or bring a copy of a valid driver’s license or proof of residence along with the payment for the license. Show the certificate of completion of an Alabama state certified hunters educational and safety course.
