How to Block Spam on Comcast Email

An email inbox without the occasional spam message is a rare one. An email inbox with an influx of unwanted, useless, space-wasting spam messages is a much more common occurrence. With a few simple steps and adjustments of your computer and Comcast email settings, you can be on your way to a relatively spam-free life.

Instructions

    • 1

Adjust your Comcast email settings to turn on spam filters. Once logged in to your Comcast account, choose the preferences option. From there select Spam Filter and choose the option that prevents spam from reaching your mailbox. You can also choose to keep a copy of the messages being filtered by checking the appropriate box. Select Update to apply the new settings.

Limit who has access to your primary email address. Prevent spam by only giving your email address to trusted friends, family and coworkers. Stop posting your email address on websites, newsgroups or public forums to ensure that spammers can not pick it up.

Take advantage of Comcast's additional email addresses. Comcast offers up to six additional accounts. If you do use websites and forums where your address must be posted, create an additional Comcast account just for their use. While you may get unwanted or more frequent messages in the secondary account, it's much easier to get rid of and you can check it less often.

Keep your computer secure by updating anti-virus software often and enabling firewalls. Computers that are not protected may be susceptible to viruses that make it easier for spam to get through.

Tips & Warnings

  • When you give out your address to family and friends, request that they not share it with others.

  • If you sign up for a mailing list, check the terms and conditions to ensure that the company will not sell your contact information, including your email address.

  • Do not reply to unwanted emails unless you are certain they are from a legitimate source. Despite legislation requiring a working "opt-out" link, many spam advertisers will have a fake link that, once selected, actually verifies that your email address is working and legitimate.

Yes, one would think that being able to BLOCK certain emails from coming in would be a standard feature, but comcast won't allow you to do this. They only have a way to have them deleted, but that doesn't stop them from being sent to you again! We need a way to BLOCK emails based upon the sender's address.
