Wedding days are filled with responsibility. There is definitely no shortage of it to go around. From getting to the church on time to making sure the reception is as beautiful as intended, people are busy, busy, busy. But one thing that is sometimes overlooked is the collection of the gifts. Here are a few tips on how to collect gifts at a wedding.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Designate someone responsible. A couple of weeks before the wedding, be sure to designate a guest as the person responsible for collecting the gifts at your wedding. A lot of times, this is the wedding planner. But if you don't have a wedding planner, pick someone who is responsible, close to you and also someone who is not inundated with other responsibilities that day (like the bride's mother).

  2. Step 2

Set-up a gift table. At your wedding reception, there should be a special table where the gifts are to be placed. Be sure your designated person knows exactly where it is in the reception area. If you want to give them an extra special job, allow them to decorate it using the themes and colors of your wedding.

  3. Step 3

Watch the table. Over the course of the night, make sure your designated person keeps a loose eye on the table to be sure that's where gifts are being placed. As people enter the reception area, perhaps even have the designated person refer your guests to the table. (This all depends on how you want the evening's events to unfold.) Also later into the evening, if your designated person sees someone who is still holding a gift or envelope, have them gently refer that guest to the gift table.

  4. Step 4

Collect the wedding gifts. At the end of the evening, have your designated person, with the help of others, carry the gifts to the bridal suite so they will be waiting for the bride and groom upon arrival. (Obviously, if possible, do this before the bride and groom enter the suite!)

Tips & Warnings
  • Have over-sized bags on hand to help carry gifts. These bags should NOT just be some random shopping bags, but perhaps nice department store bags.
