If you are looking to pick up a new hobby, following pro sports teams can be an interesting and rewarding pastime. Even if you are new to the sport, it doesn’t take long to get up to speed and become a fan. Pro sports teams are always looking for more fans and will often cater to your needs. Besides being an interesting hobby, following pro sports teams is a good way to meet new friends.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step1
Decide on the sport you want to follow: basketball, baseball, football or any other number of sports. Pick a sport that interests you, even if you don’t know all the rules to the game just yet.
Step2
Pick a particular team to follow. Now that you’ve narrowed it down to a specific sport, proceed to select a team in that sport. Oftentimes, the most logical team to follow is the team closest to where you live.
Step3
Educate yourself on the sport and specifically on the team. If you are new to the sport, go to your local library, and find a book that explains the basic rules of the sport. Once you understand the game, begin to study the particulars of the team that you have chosen to follow. Read about the players and coaches on the team, and research the team's history.
Step4
Watch the team play. Viewing the team in action is the best way to learn all the rules and to familiarize yourself to the players and coaches.
Step5
Follow the results and the latest news. You can usually find results, news and more in your local newspaper, especially if you’ve decided to follow a local pro sports team.
Step6
Attend games in person if you can. Doing so will give you the full experience of following a pro sports team.

Tips & Warnings

  • Head out to a local sports bar to watch a game. You will be able to talk to fellow sports fans and learn more about the sport.
  • Join a sports message board. Look for fan forums on the Internet, where you can follow pro sports teams with other fans.
