If you look around wet areas like rivers and lakes you will more than likely find newts. You might even decide to keep the newt, but you have no idea what to feed it. We all know the basics of how to feed common pets like dogs, cats and hamsters. This article will explain what to feed your newt.

Make sure your newt is in a comfortable, home-like environment. When newts are not in a familiar atmosphere they won't eat. They should be in an aquarium with water and have a spot where they can crawl out of the water.

Take a large worm and place it on a plate. Stretch the worm out and measure out what you need, starting with a quarter inch. You don't want to waste the worm.

Use a sharp instrument, such as a razor blade, to cut the worm into tiny pieces.

Place the remaining worm back into the container if it is still alive. The worm can survive as long as there is one inch of the head remaining. Dispose of any remains that aren't viable since newts prefer their food fresh.

Use tweezers to pick up a piece of the worm and hold it in front of the newt. The newt will eat if it is hungry.

Offer a variety of food. Try rolling brine shrimp and dog food into bite-sized pieces and place it in the aquarium. You can also put mosquito larva in the aquarium. Make sure to remove any uneaten food to keep the water clean.
