How to Make a Toast at a Stag Party

The date is set, the venue is booked, the bride is happy and that really only leaves one last thing for the groom and his buddies: the bachelor party! A stag party among the boys is a long standing tradition which celebrates a final night of "freedom" for the groom. Amongst other things that evening a really great speech by the best man is certainly in order.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate
Step1
Brainstorm. The worst thing you can do when making a stag party toast is wing it. Most of the time, people have had a little too much to drink, so simply rambling about the "good old days" is not only annoying but time consuming. Take a moment to brainstorm your thoughts before the big night.
Step2
Organize your thoughts. The opposite of winging it, is the guy who comes to the stag party and decides that his toast is going to be a chronological time line of their friendship. Telling your favorite story is great, telling your favorite ten will have the rest of the guys nodding off. Focus on what you want to say and pick your favorite story to highlight it.
Step3
Add humor. If your favorite story is tragic, add levity. If it is a hilarious old college tale, make sure that it's not all inside jokes. A nice balance of good hearted teasing with heartfelt affection will do the trick.
Step4
Practice. While you shouldn't memorize your speech, take the time to practice it a few times. Get the general structure down and maybe even try it out on a fellow friend who's attending the bachelor party.
Step5
Give the speech at the start of the night. A lot of bachelor parties deteriorate into some serious partying. Therefore it might be nice to give your stag party speech at the start of the night.
Step6
Relax and speak from your gut. Throw all the preparation out the window, look at your good buddy, raise your glass and speak from heart. The important thing is that a group of good friends are sharing the night together.

Tips & Warnings

  • Never drink and drive. There would be nothing worse than having you, the groom or the other attendees receive a DUI on the night of the stag party. Take the time to plan ahead and arrange transportation.
