How to Prepare Food for a Stag Party

A great bachelor party has drinks, some form of female entertainment and food. Partying that hard can really make a guy work up an appetite. But given that the food isn't the main source of entertainment, it can be a bit tricky to plan. Here are some tips.

Outline your party. If you're thinking about what food to prepare at a bachelor party, you're probably hosting it. So before deciding on what to serve, decide what the night is going to entail. How many people are coming? What are you going to do when they get there? What kind of crowd is it, loud and rowdy or easy going and laid back. Getting a sense of this will help you decide what food to prepare for the bachelor party.

Make "man" food. Guys are about grub, not a nice cucumber sandwich with fresh endive lettuce on the side. Pizza, chips, pretzels. Things that are high in fat, high in salt and not very good for you are the perfect types of food to prepare. Remember this is about celebrating the waning nights of freedom. There should be an air of defiance. An air of eating the foods that are "bad" for you!

Dump the utensils. There's nothing worse than a bunch of guys sitting around the couch, crammed in, trying to deftly use their fork and knife. Bachelor party food should be hand and paper plate friendly. This will also help reduce the mess and clean-up.

Provide plenty. Nothing is worse than a party that runs out of food half-way through the night. Make sure you've got plenty of food for your guests. Spread it out over the course of the evening. You don't have to put out everything you prepared all at once. This way the guests can enjoy each course, digest and be ready for the next round.

Order it! This may be somewhat of a cheat. But you know yourself and you know whether you can cook or not. If you can't, there is no shame in delivery. Everyone at your bachelor party would much rather good food then your over-cooked, burnt, dry, bone in rib-eye.

Tips & Warnings

  • Pick a theme. There's no shame in picking a theme and providing food to fit it. If the groom is from Chicago consider serving deep dish and brats. If he's from the Northeast, a clam bake might be cool. This may help point you in the right direction.
