How to Dress for a Sorority Party

Ladies, if the thought of rummaging through your closet for something to wear to a sorority party invokes nauseating cold sweats, take a moment to consider these suggestions. When you feel good, you look good--confidence is key!

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Find out if the party has a theme. If so, guests are usually encouraged to dress the part. Gather your friends and head out to the local thrift stores to snag some cheap bargains on costumes. If time is of the essence, ask your roommates and friends for something simple, like a sombrero for a Cinco de Mayo party or a robe and cigar if Hugh Heffner will be making an appearance. Find one or two props that will “make” the outfit and get a kick out of guests.
Step2
Be prepared for the weather. If the party has a “Charlie’s Angels” theme in the middle of January, consider wearing something underneath your daisy dukes if you’ll be walking across campus. If you happened to have found the perfect costume, but you might risk frost bite wearing into the elements, get a ride to and from the party.
Step3
Leave your worries behind. If the party has no dress code, just be yourself! Accessorize with some earrings and a necklace if you want more of an evening look without overdoing it. Shoes are a great way to pack a trendy punch, but if you will be trekking long distances to and from the party, make sure they won’t have you limping by the time you get there.
Step4
Keep it simple. Take only the necessities—money, campus ID, driver’s license, and dorm/house key. Wear something with a pocket so you can hang on to these items yourself. Relying on a friend to hold them for you is alright in a pinch, but if you have to be up early the next morning for work and your friend went home with your things, you’ll wish you would have hung on to them yourself.
Step5
Leave your purse at home. It is very easy to leave it on a table or sofa somewhere and not realize it until hours have passed by. Chances are, it is long gone.

Tips & Warnings

  • Ask around to see what your friends are wearing so you can get an idea of what to expect.
  • Dress up with as team, such as the Three Amigos or Sonny and Cher. It’s a little less intimidating if you aren’t alone.
  • Unless you are familiar with the guest list, don’t over do it with your outfit. What you might find hilarious, others might find offensive.
