Hungary is a country rich in both beauty and historical significance. Following the Hungarian Revolution, it was also the source of a large population of immigrants into the United States. This population became an important part of America's education, engineering and artistic communities. Since the fall of the Berlin Wall, there has been an ever increasing interaction between the United States and Hungary. Hungarian language skills are one means of accessing this interaction.

  1. Step 1

    Check to see which colleges and universities have strong departments of Hungarian studies and make Hungarian studies part of your college curriculum.

  2. Step 2

    Explore the Internet for courses in learning Hungarian if you cannot learn it in a collegiate setting. The Foreign Services Institute has a website that offers free written and spoken language instruction that is extensive in its scope.

  3. Step 3

    Enroll in a commercial language course if neither the collegiate or Internet options meet your needs.

  4. Step 4

    Check to see if there are local Hungarian organizations or clubs and network with their members. Many Hungarian-Americans are bilingual in Hungarian and English and can assist in learning the language.

  5. Step 5

    Access one of the Internet sites that match people who are learning languages. Find a partner who speaks Hungarian and wants to learn English.

  6. Step 6

    Explore the possibility of spending time in Hungary in a work or study program.
