If you have the urge to "swing your partner" and "do-si-do" but your friends and family have no interest, don't despair—set up your own square dancing group. Follow a few simple steps to bring a few like-minded people together for a good time—and a lot of square dancing.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step1
Decide when you would be available for square dancing. If you already have a couple of people who want to square dance with you make sure that your schedules work together.
Step2
Check online for people in your area who might be interested in joining your group. Web sites like Craigslist are great resources to search for people with common interests.
Step3
Enroll in square dance lessons. Even if you already know how to square dance it is nice to learn new moves, and you can meet a lot of people who might be interested in joining a group.
Step4
Go to square dance conventions. You can find information on when these are held through your local newspaper or online.
Step5
Post ads at your local churches and businesses. Include your interest in finding square dancers to join your group and when you plan to get together.
Step6
Plan a first meeting at a mutually agreeable location and discuss when and where you would like to square dance. Also, make sure that everyone is compatible with one another, as it is hard to work together in a group if personalities clash.

Tips & Warnings

  • Check with the owners of the businesses before posting ads in their locations, as some places require approval first.
  • Be careful when meeting unknown people for the first time. Do not show up anywhere alone and make sure to meet at a public place. If it feels wrong, it probably is.
