Muay Thai kickboxing is one of the most dangerous forms of stand up fighting to train. It incorporates striking with hands, elbows, knees and shins to knock your opponent out or strike them into submission. Muay Thai was developed in southeast Asia, but it has spread across the world with the popularity of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) on the rise. Training in Muay Thai kickboxing can be a fun but painful experience.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Mouth piece
  • Headgear
  • Shin guards
  • Groin protector
  • Sparring gloves
  1. Step 1

Find a local Muay Thai kickboxing gym in your area. These have spread quickly around the United States and the rest of the world.

  2. Step 2

Begin with basic techniques. Muay Thai is not about throwing wild punches; it teaches crisp strikes that are fast and dangerous.

  3. Step 3

Train with as many different fighters as you can. Everyone will have a slightly different style. If you train with a large group of diverse people, you gain experience against these different styles and will be ready for anything.

  4. Step 4

Listen to your instructor and the more experienced fighters. This will allow you to speed up the learning process and learn how to properly strike and defend yourself.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be ready to get hit. Muay Thai is a very violent combat sport. It is one of the roughest stand up disciplines to train.
  • Check with your doctor before you begin training. A full physical will make sure you do not have pre-existing injuries or medical conditions that could complicate your training.
