This classic cocktail was popular between the two World Wars. Sure, it's pink, but macho leading men like Humphrey Bogart and Errol Flynn didn't seem to mind that one bit. Give this cocktail a try, and it might become a favorite of yours, too.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Applejack brandy
  • Lime juice, freshly squeezed
  • Grenadine
  • A chilled cocktail glass
  • Cocktail shaker
  • Shot glass with measurements for 1 jigger and for 1/2 jigger
  • Ice
  • Cherry or apple slice for garnish
  1. Step 1

Measure out 2 jiggers of applejack and pour it into the cocktail shaker.

  2. Step 2

Add 1 jigger freshly squeezed lime juice and 1/2 jigger of the grenadine to the cocktail shaker.

  3. Step 3

Toss a handful of ice into the cocktail shaker.

  4. Step 4

Shake and strain into a cocktail glass.

  5. Step 5

Garnish your Jack Rose with a cherry or a slice of apple, if desired. Bottoms up!

Tips & Warnings
  • Substitute lemon juice for lime juice if you prefer, but the cocktail's taste is smoother with the lime juice.
  • No one really knows where the name for the drink originated. Some think it came from the jack in applejack and the rosy color the grenadine gives the drink, while others believe it was named after a New York City gangster of the late 19th century.
  • Never try to substitute apple brandy for applejack. Apple brandy may be more easily accessible, and both liquors are made from apples, but they are not interchangeable.
