Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Things You’ll Need:
- Airplane ticket
- Reservations for a place to stay
Step1
Start planning your trip well in advance. Check Internet travel sites often to find the best deals on flights. Often there are specials and discounts for certain destinations, and if you can live without a nonstop flight, the prices tend to drop considerably.
Step2
Check out the YMCAs and hotels in New York City. Compare the prices. Staying at a YMCA is a very inexpensive and safe option, if you don't mind sharing the accommodations with others. They are clean, secure and guests may use all of their facilities, including weight rooms, pools and Internet access.
Step3
Take advantage of the public transportation system. The subways are clean, efficient and easily accessible. They are also a quick and inexpensive way to traverse the city.
Step4
Visit the many free tourist attractions. There is much to see in New York City that does not involve spending money. You can pay your respects at the World Trade Center site, visit the Statue of Liberty, walk through Central Park and wander the streets of Manhattan taking in all of the cultural sites, sculptures and gardens. Christmas in New York City is incredible if you visit the Rockefeller Center and surrounding areas.
Step5
Visit the varied cultural neighborhoods. You will find inexpensive cafes, bars, stores and novelty and gift shops.
Step6
Visit the beautiful churches and do not miss a tour of the gorgeous St. Patrick's Cathedral. On its own merit, it is worth traveling to New York City to see!
